    Sinclair Knight Merz (SKM) has a credible groundwater team comprising of Hydrogeologists, Environmental Engineers and Environmental Scientists based in Adelaide. The team enjoy a reputation of delivering exciting projects built on technical innovation. The team are now seeking a Principal Hydrogeologist to complement the existing team. The role will be based in Adelaide, South Australia.

    Reporting into the Team Leader Groundwater, the Principal Hydro-geologist will work closely with the Adelaide Groundwater team and operate as a key technical resource in supporting the team to deliver high level technical projects in groundwater and associated underground liquid and gas reservoir management.

    The scope of the role will include providing commercial input to further develop the already strong position of the groundwater business, in particular focusing on Government agencies in the river and wetland infrastructure sector and also assisting with opportunities in the mining and energy sector. The role will involve working with existing Client Managers in order to develop the Managed Aquifer Recharge (MAR) and coal seam gas opportunities/projects in Australia.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    TECHNICAL: Project Manager and Project Director providing senior technical, business and risk management oversight for large Groundwater projects. Act as a senior technical support to the Team Leader on groundwater projects.

    PROJECT MANAGEMENT: Secure and deliver large groundwater technical projects including operating as a Project Director.

    CLIENT CARE: Ensure quality of service and client satisfaction. Ensure projects delivered are meeting the client's needs.

    COMMERCIAL: Support and assist in the development of the Adelaide office Groundwater practice. Pursue Managed Aquifer Recharge (MAR) opportunities in the Mining sector, with Local Government authorities, water utilities and in the Coal seam gas area in conjunction with existing client managers where they are operating in these sectors including;

    * Groundwater management
    * Groundwater dependent ecosystems
    * Surface water
    * Groundwater interface

    TEAMWORKING: Acts a role model to the team.

    EDUCATION & QUALIFICATIONS:

    Applicants will hold a relevant degree i.e. Hydrogeology (or equivalent or be able to demonstrate an equivalent level of understanding).

    EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:

    * Applicants must have considerable relevant technical work experience and may come from a wide range of backgrounds including environmental consultancy, engineering/industry, Local Authority or from a regulatory organisation. Regardless of background applicants will need to demonstrate technical expertise within the field of Hydrogeology.
    * A track record of business development.
    * Previous experience of working with and developing capability within less experienced consultants.
    * Strong report and proposal writing skills.
    * Demonstrated application of quality control / quality assurance.
    * Able to undertake strategic high level discussions and engage senior people in government agencies to support client relationship development.
    * Knowledge and/or experience of winning and managing high value projects including management of project schedules, budget control and resource allocation and management.


    PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT: The role offers a huge opportunity to grow technically through working in multi-disciplinary project teams servicing major clients within SKM's non-environmental business areas such as statutory planning (facilitating assessments and clearances for property transactions), heavy industry and infrastructure (e.g. major resources, road, rail and other transport projects), and others. There may also be a potential for line management/mentoring responsibilities.
