Our client is an expanding specialist insurance and reinsurance company covering a global client base. They are looking for a Well or Drilling Engineer who can offer technical advice to their underwriting team. Unlike many other insurance firms, they like to have industry background professionals to help them have a real insight into the risks involved with wells.

The idea is that this would lead to a very lucrative career as a specialist Well Control Underwriter. Full training would be given on the insurance side.

Its a unique opportunity to potentially become the specialist in this area.

The ideal candidate will have:

Experience

* 5-15 years experience in a relevant well/drilling/rig operation engineering environment
* Hands on experience in the off/onshore oil, gas or petrochemical industry.
* Knowledge of and experience of the drilling process and the cost of repairing wells.
* Experience or strong interest in loss prevention topics (e.g. fire protection; technical risk management) is crucial.
* Commercial exposure
* Previous HSE experience.
* Previous experience in the insurance business is advantageous.

Skills

* An ability to communicate effectively across different departments
* An ability to communicate effectively at the highest level e.g. CEO
* Commercially aware and the ability to negotiate
* Must have very good report writing skills.

Other

* Willing to travel from time to time
* An element of adaptability/flexibility are important in this growing company


Specific responsibilities

* To review engineering reports, preparing assessments and performing site surveys.
* Meet with insurance clients and brokers.
* To contribute fresh ideas to various projects and papers involving the development of best practices and guidelines.
* To compile, analyse and present relevant technical information to assist and develop the underwriting process.
